MIND Fundamentals
Whether you’re facing a global pandemic or not, the best way to maintain positive mental health is to incorporate regular daily routines that prioritize a healthy mindset. I keep this very simple by using what I’ve coined as the:
MIND Fundamentals – Movement, Intention, Nourishment, and Deep Connections.
Movement
Thirty minutes of movement per day has been shown to increase energy, sharpen memory, improve sleep and inject positivity. You get an even bigger bonus boost if you do it outside, so take it outside in the morning to beat the heat!
Intention
It is so important to your mental health that you consistently set and reach goals. Make a list of your big goals and reverse engineer them into bitesize steps that you can work toward a little bit each day. Start each day with a specific goal in mind; on the days when you’re not as motivated set a goal that you KNOW you can reach—like making the bed!
Nourishment
Think of nourishment as how you feed and fuel yourself. Sure, eating healthily is a big part of that, but more importantly, ensure that you are feeding your soul. Incorporate hobbies that you love into EVERY day as a practice of self-care. Read a book, write in a journal, do a crafting project. Think of the things that you can do easily and happily and not notice how much time has gone by: THESE are the things that fuel you and maintain your happiness.
Deep Connections
We are tribal creatures intended to be connected to one another, so social distancing can actually be dangerous to our health. Ensure that you’re connecting with loved ones daily. Schedule phone calls or socially distanced visits or make new friends via virtual networking events. However you connect, avoid keeping things surface—there’s lots to reflect on these days. Challenge yourself to go deep!
