Block that Blue Light!
Think about your day yesterday.
How much time did you spend looking at a screen? And screens are everywhere right now, think about your phone, your iPad, your computer, your TV, your back-up-camera in the car, and the list goes on and on.
We know that there are lots of issues with phones and social media (check out my blog post on Toys for Tots!) but there are also challenges with the type of light they emit.
Did you know the way your screen lights up can cause damage to your eyes and sleeping patterns?
Recall when you turn on a screen, it lights up right away and you can see the screen clearly in most environments. That’s because the blue light is, in essence, high-energy, visible (HEV) light; falling in the same category of visible light as violet. What does this mean?
Blue light, like so much else in the world, is something we need to take in moderation. Like having that extra cup of coffee, adding salt to your fries or eating out, we need to have it in moderation.
But when your day is full of working from home on your device, that is kind of a challenge.
Introducing – Blue Light Blocking Glasses!
I got my first pair as we went into Quarantine lockdown. Suddenly, ALL of my day was spent seeing clients through a screen and my straining eyes and pounding head told me it was TOO much.
So the benefits? They are pretty simple:
- Sleep – By blocking the blue light you absorb, you are able to fall asleep faster because your brain is not as stimulated by screen lights (which reduce the body’s natural release of melatonin)
- Eye Strain – reduce your headaches and overall ‘eye-tiredness’ as the glasses stop all that brightness and shine from hitting your eyes.
- Make a Statement – they can make for super cute accessories to spice up outfits (a part of your outfit you can actually see on all of your video calls!)
