Think about your day yesterday.
How much time did you spend looking at a screen? And screens are everywhere right now, think about your phone, your iPad, your computer, your TV, your back-up-camera in the car, and the list goes on and on.
We know that there are lots of issues with phones and social mediabut there are also challenges with the type of light they emit.
Did you know the way your screen lights up can cause damage to your eyes and sleeping patterns?
It’s fall y’all meaning all pumpkin errthang is BACK! Here’s my healthier and cheaper option to the (Caramel) Pumpkin Spice Latte.
Bonus: I recently also added a tiny drizzle of agave nectar as well to make my Caramel Pumpkin Spice have the texture I enjoy!
Last week, during my Therapy Thursday talk on Tech, I bitched out. It really bugged me, so I feel like this is an opportunity to redeem yourself. If you don’t have kids and aren’t planning to have any, this may not be an interesting Fundamental Friday for you and I apologize in advance.
Alright, so I got a question, saying “Thoughts on tech for your toddlers? iPads?”
I was triggered. I am super ADAMANTLY against iPads for my toddlers if I’m completely honest. BUT I also really intentionally avoid talking about any sort of parenting decisions on my page because I have realized that it’s an important boundary for ME to keep my sanity to not tell others how to parent. I was in a kerfuffle.
When I first became a therapist I was baffled by the extensive, and almost mandatory use of white noise machines–a regular sight just outside the doors of most therapists. In fact, upon his first visit to my office, my husband was concerned that maybe our air conditioning was broken because of the loud consistent whooshing sound coming from each office.
With COVID, I have started using my white noise machine for more than just maintaining privacy in my office. And I have to tell you, if you are looking for a way to help minimize distracts in all aspects of your life, this little white noise machine is the thing to get!

Whether you’re facing a global pandemic or not, the best way to maintain positive mental health is to incorporate regular daily routines that prioritize a healthy mindset. I keep this very simple by using what I’ve coined as the:
MIND Fundamentals – Movement, Intention, Nourishment, and Deep Connections.
Fundamental Health has always been based on a premise of holistic, integrative practice—a belief that what our society needs in terms of mental care is a very simple kick in the ass to get back to basics in the simple, wellness-focused living. I have always been of the belief that our lifestyle and our healthcare system is not doing us any favors and my practice is one small step to help challenge that. I work with the belief that medicating is a last resort, and that getting to the root cause of the problem (in my field it could be maladaptive belief systems, poor communication, dysfunctional patterns, unprocessed trauma, etc) is always the primary goal.
Did you know you can help manage your stress and anxiety with plants? Because I did not. Look, I try my hardest not to go full-on crystal charging, plant-based, “the universe has spoken” Therapist on you, because that is SO NOT ME. But ya’ll, when you learn new shit, you gotta be willing to ADAPT. So I’m bringing you along on the path with me. To enlightenment. Haha, just kidding.
I have an embarrassing confession. Despite being an educated, fairly decent-read, and successful adult over the age of thirty, I didn’t know the actual meaning of holistic. I had a general idea. It was that overarching term that hippies used to describe anything they did, right?
After years of working up the nerve to create this blog, I can assure you that this was not what I expected as my first blog post. But the events last Sunday have made an impact not only on myself, but on my city, that I feel will be around for a very long time to come. As Las Vegas is my home, this event was very close to me, and I could certainly use some writing to process it all. It’s not ideal for a blog creation, but it is certainly what is most prevalent in my life right now, so it’s as good a place as any to start.
Depending on where you are in the great age spectrum of life, you’re either thinking, “Oh damn, I’m sorry. You’re old!” Or “Psssh shut up, 35 is nothing!”
Disneyland has been one of my favorite short weekend getaways since moving to Las Vegas about a decade ago, and I have managed to find a way to carve out at least a day to go each year since my arrival. I figured once I got pregnant that those annual trips would have to be put on a bit of a hold. And then, when I got pregnant again when Addie was only four months old, I realized I’d be in the toddler stage for the next several years, and figured Disney was just one of the many sacrifices that came with the early years of parent.
Just a couple weeks into parenthood, after many sleepless nights and irritated spats at one another for not carrying enough weight in our partnership, an exhausted Tony came to me with a look of defeat on his face. “You’re so good at this. It all comes so naturally to you.”
I have been taking some extra time to catch up on some casework at Starbucks because when I try to work from home I get very little accomplished—I just need to clean this and straighten this up and does Maria need help with the baby? You understand.
The majority of my circle still doesn’t have kids or had them so long ago it’s hard to relate anymore. So, who do I go to for real life advice about all the weird ins and outs of pregnancy???? Well, the answer is Google.
